Although I'm a guitarist with a fondness for 20th century literature I've found that prior to hearing ... Marcin Dylla's interpretation of it, I hated Ginastera's sonata for guitar. I had heard it said by a guitarist or two that the right kind of performer can make Ginastera's guitar sonata come to life and it just wasn't until I heard Dylla's version that I was convinced it could sound interesting.
That said ... I had heard Ginastera's piano music in college, which I really enjoyed, so I knew that there was music by the composer I liked ... it just wasn't the guitar sonata.
