Stepan Rak "Voces de profundis" Live - Asya Selyutina guitar
As anyone who has recorded the first half of Nikita Koshkin's remarkable cycle of 24 preludes and fugues would be in a position to perform it, here's Asya Selyutina's live performance of Stepan Rak's "Voces de profundis"
This is a piece where you'll want to know that the whole thing is a musical response to Alfred Hitchcock's film Psycho. Rak is known, for those who know his work, for doing some really weird avant garde extended technique stuff on the six-stringed guitar. It's not to everyone's taste but I've enjoyed his work over the years.

It dawned on me recently I haven't linked to anything by the guitarist composer Stepan Rak in possibly the whole history of this blog. I have to fix that. Fortunately Esteban Colucci has posted a wonderful performance of one of Rak's works.
Don't let the 14 minute continuous playing time dissuade you. Rak is a master of getting large-scale forms to work on solo guitar! It's worth your time!

It will be no less the case with the sequel and if you actually think My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic was socialist realism I won't be able to disabuse you of your ignorance (my favorite character is still Princess Luna and I still think it's funny the MLP movie beat Aronofsky's mother in global and domestic box office ).
Jonas Tamullionis - 11 Preludios for guitar (video w score, performed by Esther Poli)
One of the first posts I ever published at Wenatchee The Hatchet was to mention the Lithuanian composer Jonas Tamulionis. Back in college I encountered some of his choral music and liked it and only later discovered he wrote music for the guitar. The internet being what it is there is now a Youtube video of a performance of 11 Preludes by Tamulionis, performed by Esther Poli on the CD I mentioned way back in 2006.

Mie Ogura and Atanas Ourkouzounov are the soloists and if you care the least bit about contemporary chamber music for flute and guitar you owe it to yourself to seek out every single recording these two have ever made together! I am not overstating things. :) They're the most exciting and interesting flute and guitar duo I have ever heard in my life. Call it personal taste or prejudice but a blogger gets to do that.

For those who have read Wenatchee The Hatchet quote Jacques Ellul this quote from Figgis is probably not much a surprise. ;) I've got reader cal to thank for mentioning Figgis over the years at Fiat Iustitia. A pretty high proportion of Figgis' work is public domain and available at archive.org.

Having read and heard people say that "bloggers" do everything for numbers (from celebrity preacher types) I note that during the last hiatus the number of views of Wenatchee The Hatchet passed the 3 million mark. Since blogspot readership might be half bots or more I can't assume 3 million people have read Wenatchee The Hatchet. But for the actual flesh and blood people who have read Wenatchee The Hatchet since I started blogging in 2006, thanks.
