Actually ... I can't help but agree. Brody's the kind of film critic who could go on for about a thousand words about the great Fantastic Four film Josh Trank would have made if the studio hadn't interfered. A friend of mine calls this the bad habit of a film critic writing about the movie they wished they had seen instead of the one that actually got made that they watched.
As Alan Jacobs so aptly put it, it seems that when Richard Brody has decided he doesn't like a movie for whatever reason he just stops paying attention altogether. I could almost imagine someone like Freddie deBoer pointing out that it doesn't get more #Resistance to a self congratulatory degree than writing film reviews for The New Yorker. But then there's variations of people who write about writing about "real movies". For those kinds of writers I am still glad that the My Little Pony movie stomped on mother! in the global and domestic box office. A couple of my nieces told me the post Lauren Faust era of MLP is pretty awful, though. Too bad, it was actually a great show for the first four seasons.
As for Brody, this was the guy who claimed that Michael Bay has more fun and gives more fun than George Miller. Right ... and if Richard Brody wants to out-troll Armond White I guess he can try but he's not going to succeed.
