I find I have the most fun with guitar recitals that are very nearly all contemporary music. Contemporary guitar recitals can be, practically, the opposite of symphonic concerts. I love Haydn, don't get me wrong, but there's a lot of solid box sets of Haydn. I can hear Flippin's works online, obviously, but it's fun, really fun, to hear contemporary repertoire being performed by contemporary guitarists right now in settings like Benaroya Hall. Verdery composes his own music and arranges works.
