over at Ad Fontes Brian Auten reviews Crawford Gribben's Survival and Resistance in Christian America: Christian Reconstruction in the Pacific Northwest:

Academic reviews of books take longer than popular-level book reviews. Sometimes a book gets reviewed a year or so after it has been published.  Thus a new review of a not-quite-so-new book. I heartily recommend Gribben's book, by the way and consider it a necessary read for anyone who wants to get a clearer sense of the American Redoubt as the region within which Mark Driscoll had his conversion to evangelical Christianity from his ostensibly nominal Catholicism on the one hand and his calling to ministry on the other.  I have also discussed how Gribben's book helped me get a clearer sense of how Driscoll's conversion and calling experiences/processes coincided with the emergence of   Doug Wilson's brand. That the two men were documented interacting with and knowing of each other about thirty years ago was worth noting.

Brian Auten's recent review makes a case that in some ways Gribben's book focused too much on Wilson and not on the actual kinist groups and other figures in the American Redoubt but his review is, overall, positive and he recommends the book.
