I have been
overdue to catch up on a links for the weekend type of post. I have been reading Ethan Hein’s blog, of
course, as I regularly do and a few thoughts from him from late 2025 got me
thinking. I am particularly struck by
his observation that jazz was an artistic outgrowth of popular song.

Ethan Hein on jazz as an outgrowth of pop; Dylan's Tambourine Man; and a comment on how the music of The Rolling Stones feels like it has aged like milk (I have theories about the actually pretty good reasons for this intuition, despite liking a lot of Stones' songs)

Ethan Hein has been blogging about Bob Dylan and his songs and I have some thoughts (Dylan was steeping himself in the early 20th C. literary avant garde in tandem with musical folklore)
Ethan Hein has been blogging about Bob Dylan songs at MusicRadar lately and that has touched on topics of authenticity and inauthenticity.
