Here's a fun little piece by Krenek. It uses a tone row and all but I find the piece charming.
Even though I have not really felt any burning desire to compose twelve-tone or serial music I'm hardly against it. I admit I prefer the Berg, Schoenberg, Webern or Krenek side of the pool. Boulez and Carter don't particularly interest me. The recently departed composer George Walker was blunt enough to say that he had issues with Stravinsky and Hindemith but that he would encourage younger composers to immerse themselves in those composers rather than ... waste time doing what Elliot Carter did for decades. Ouch! Not that Walker himself was averse to using tone rows ... .
But we're posting something about Krenek.
