for Holy Saturday, Blind Willie Johnson's "Dark Was the Night, Cold was the Ground ... "

It's kind of a blogging tradition here at Wenatchee The Hatchet to post a link to a recording of the great Blind Willie Johnson performing "Dark was the Night ... ", the fuller title is "Dark was the Night, Cold was the Ground on which Our Lord was Laid", or something pretty close to that (going entirely from memory here).  In sum, this is a wordless version of a song for what would be known as Holy Saturday in the Christian liturgical year.

Being by now a pretty much lifelong admirer of Blind Willie Johnson's music there's all sorts of reasons to link to one of his great recordings but this is one of his greatest pieces and there's never a more perfect day to link to said piece than Holy Saturday.  It's one of the great musical works in the American traditions.
