So ... I lost track of Brouwer's compositional output for a while but it turns out Guitar Sonatas 7 and 8 have happened. I have 1 through 6 and have thought off and on over the years about blogging through them. Now I'm not sure how realistic such a goal is but ... hey ... I can share a performance of Sonata No. 7.
I've stalled in the middle of Matiegka Op. 23 because I can't just write about Matiegka's sonata without doing at least some analytical work on the Haydn he reworked. Embarrassing but such is life and the limits of mortal flesh. I am not aware if anyone has done a book-length treatment of the Leo Brouwer guitar sonatas but somebody really should at some point.
