so is there a Mars Hill Wenatchee in the works? Josh McPherson of Grace Covenant in Wenatchee listed among the Mars HIll pastors lately

Josh McPherson serves as lead pastor of Grace Covenant Church in Wenatchee WA, a church he helped plant in 2008. He is a member of Acts 29 and graduated from the Resurgence Training Center in 2010. He also holds an undergraduate degree in biblical studies and is currently finishing his graduate degree from Western Seminary. He and his wife Sharon have four children: Ella Mae, Levi Gregory, Amelia Claire, and Gideon Joshua.

The questions of the evening are in the title of the post. Clarifying comment from readers is invited ... though apparently few dare to actually comment on blog posts at Wenatchee the Hatchet even when commentary and clarification is solicited. There were some comments in the last year and a half about the possibility of some collaboration of some kind left here and there at this blog but you probably won't be able to find those if you look for them.  This was something only on the periphery of Wenatchee The Hatchet's radar in the last year or so but the emergence of McPherson in the pastor listings does raise/invite a question as to whether or not church assimilations are happening even as Mars Hill has been in some kind of financial nosedive this year.

Interesting to see that there were actual graduates of the Resurgence Training Center in 2010.  So there was at least one graduating class, maybe in two stages?  But that's blogging for some other time.

This was a church with MH connections brought to Wenatchee's attention earlier this year but the Result Source controversy sort of overpowered considerations of whether or not some assimilation of Grace Covenant into Mars Hill might have been getting considered.  McPherson just showing up in the pastors roster of Mars Hill would appear, in light of Mars Hill history, to have now rendered such a question moot ... in a way.

I read your columns 'religiously' but don't feel qualified to make any additional comments as you are very thorough & complete in your explanations & documentation.

But, I do very much appreciate your blogs!

Off the top of my head: isn't it kinda obvious that Josh is now listed on the Mars Hill pastors list just because he preached on September 14? Maybe it's THAT simple. Just sayin'...

I did live and work in Wenatchee for about a year. The best thing they have in my opinion are the Hispanic imports. Full of energy and into making community and business. And of course very Catholic in terms of religion and culture.

Strange to me is the fact that, at least at that time (2000) they had the largest Free Methodist congregation in the state!?

Wenatchee does have a habit of producing much more national news than a little city it's size should ever generate. But perhaps they have been quite for a couple of weeks of years.

Some simple very approximate estimates:

Population of Puget Sound = 3,500,026

"Size" of Mars hill in Puget sound perhaps = 12,000

Coverage of Mars Hill in Puget Sound = 0.343%

0.343% times the 33,070 2014 population of Wenatchee = 113.38 people

However I would expect the number to be less due to recent negative publicity, the current stable Christian influence, and the independent nature of the people in Wenatchee.

On the other hand they are pursuing Spokane still. Perhaps they see something in the “middle America” population I do not understand.

That said I may well plan a day in Wenatchee to look into this (and other matters I wonder about there) and will get back to you if I ever do.

Many thanks for the blog!!

I am pretty sure it is just because Josh just preached at MH. He has a thriving church in Wenatchee and is a gifted teacher, so I think there is 0% chance that they are thinking about becoming a MH campus.

If that's the case what's the point of mentioning McPherson in the pastor roster at all? Then again, MH competence with social media and websites has not always been stellar. Didn't Justin Dean say two years ago or so that Andrew Lamb's disciplinary situation getting discussed on The City was due to "unclear communication"?

We'll just have to see. It would seem McPherson only has things to lose by a public association with MHC at this delicate point in its history and with its difficult season.

His name is no longer listed as a MH Pastor. I guess we can assume this means it was an error, but only time will tell.

Also, the "Please prove you're not a robot" text for me is 666. Interesting.

My guess was that it was a limitation of their CMS (Content Management System) and rather than rewrite or modify their system, they opted to enter him as a 'pastor' to allow him authorship of content on the MH site.

Definitely confusing, not necessarily an imminent change.

ExeGe, that's the most persuasive explanation presented so far.

Heh, and it might explain why the job for Software Development Engineer may still be open, maybe? ;-)
