a pull quote for its own sake, "People never find it easy to confront the past; they generally prefer to consign it to oblivion."

People never find it easy to confront the past; they generally prefer to consign it to oblivion. In today’s society, the model citizen is too often one without memory. Complex events are simplified;  history is coarsened and turned into a species of exorcism and kitsch.

Unfortunately this has seemed too often to be the case with Mars Hill and its leadership.  We need to be wary of lessons to be learned, most of all if they are lessons that we believe may or currently do exonerate us.
